Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links two or more selections; all must win for the bet to pay out, and the winnings roll over each selection.
- Asian Handicap
- A spread betting system that gives a deficit (handicap) to the underdog and a head start to the favourite, reducing the draw option.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money a bettor sets aside for placing bets, separate from everyday finances.
- Bet Builder
- An online feature that lets you combine multiple outcomes from the same match into a single custom wager.
- Bet Slip
- The digital record that lists the selections you intend to bet on, the odds, and the stake.
- Cash Out
- A feature allowing you to settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes (win, draw, loss) in a match, increasing your chance of winning.
- Draw No Bet
- A market where you pick a team to win; if the match ends in a draw, the stake is refunded.
- Each-Way
- A two-part bet where you back a selection to win and also to place (usually top 2‑3 positions), with separate stakes for each part.
- Favourite
- The team or player considered most likely to win, reflected by lower odds.
- Fixed Odds
- The odds set by the bookmaker at the time of bet placement, remaining unchanged regardless of later market movements.
- Free Bet
- A promotional credit that lets you place a bet without using your own money, with any winnings usually paid out after a small condition.
- Handicap Betting
- A market that applies a points or goals deficit to one team to level the playing field, altering odds accordingly.
- In-Play Betting
- Placing bets on a match after it has started, with odds updating live as the game progresses.
- Odds
- The numerical price that indicates how much you can win relative to your stake, reflecting the implied probability of an outcome.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether a specific statistic (usually total goals) will be above or below a set number.
- Parlay
- A bet that combines multiple selections into one wager; all must win for a payout, offering higher odds than single bets.
- Profit Margin
- The bookmaker’s built‑in advantage, expressed as a percentage, which ensures they make a profit over the long term.
- Push
- A tie result in a market that results in all stakes being returned, often occurring in point spread bets.
- Rollover Requirement
- A condition attached to a bonus that requires you to bet a certain multiple of the bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a bet, which determines your potential return if the bet wins.
- Underdog
- The team or player expected to lose, reflected by higher odds.
- Value Bet
- A selection where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, suggesting a profitable opportunity.
- Void
- A bet that is cancelled and the stake is returned, usually due to a match being postponed or a rule breach.
